A WHITE STAG SITING!

Here is an article Martin and KC found this a.m. when they opened their yahoo account. Martin was giddy like a little girl when he saw this! LOL See what you think?

A rare white stag, thought to be one of only a handful in Britain, has been filmed at a secret location in the Highlands. (on Feb 12th they forgot to mention)

The “ghost-like” red deer was spotted on the west coast of Scotland, but its location is being kept secret to prevent it becoming a target for poachers.

The white stag caught on film in a secret location in Scotland.

The shooting of a white stag on the border of Devon and Cornwall last October (when Andrew ascended) caused an outcry after local residents managed to protect its location for several years.

It’s head was removed as trophy and its carcase was found hanging from a tree. It was originally thought to be the only one in England but it was reported recently that it had sired a white calf. (Martin believes it was this white stag that was killed that appeared and took Andrew home.)

Fran Lockhart of the John Muir Trust, who filmed the rare white stag, or white hart, on Feb 12th (& what is white? Pure maybe? ;-) ) in the Highlands said it was “a magnificent looking animal”.

She added: “I am thrilled to know that there is a white stag roaming free out there in the Scottish Highlands and that I was privileged enough to be able to spend an hour observing him.

“He looked almost ghost-like next to the group of young red stags that he was mixing with.

“We will be watching this animal with interest, particularly as he will be reaching his full potential in the next couple of years.”

The white appearance is caused by leucism, (Hmmmm similar to the word leukemia?) a rare genetic pattern that reduces levels of the pigment responsible for the animal’s colour.

White deer are popular in mythology and the ancient Celts considered them to be messengers from the afterlife.

Legend has it that they are closely associated with unicorns and their appearance is said to herald profound change in the lives of those who encounter them.

According to Scottish legend, King David was hunting in the 12th century when a white stag charged him.

When he grasped its antlers they miraculously turned into a large cross and he was inspired to build a shrine to the Holy Rood – meaning Holy Cross – at the site of the Queen’s Holyrood Palace.

In Arthurian legend, the white stag is a creature that can never be caught and King Arthur’s unsuccessful pursuit of it represents mankind’s quest for spiritual knowledge.

Doreen Graham, of the Scottish SPCA, said: “The white hart is extremely rare and quite magnificent. White animals in a landscape not covered in snow can be very vulnerable because they are so visible.

“It is important that people recognise this and ensure it is kept safe. For anyone who sees it, it will be a very special experience.

“But we would ask them to maintain the secrecy of its location and bear in mind that mythology states it is very bad luck to kill one.”

________________________________________________ How cool is that?? AND there is a picture of it too with the article! It is magnificent! A coincidence that he appeared the day after Andrew’s ascension story goes public?? I think not! Andrew made Martin add up the date the stag was seen & it adds up to 16, Andrew’s age. Also, who is the patron saint of Scotland?? ANDREW! There’s more but I can’t remember, Martin put it all together.

This is a HUGE sign from Andrew!

Martin will see if he can post the pic of the white stag somewhere on the site.
